Paratype

Paratype  is a TTRPG that takes place in the aftermath of an apocalypse where giant bugs have reclaimed the earth. For humans survival is a challenge-one helped by the invention of a device that grants strange new buggy abilities. Paratype is a game about survival, humanity and so, so many bugs.

The collapse was preceded not by screams but whispers. The gentle rumors of unrest amongst the general populous slowly arose to a dull roar.

Some claim it was a result of nuclear fallout or war, others mention climate change and pollution. While the original cause was never recorded, no one forgot what came next.

Bugs, giant arthropods. The megafauna descended, forcing survivors into the shadows scrounging for what little scraps they could recover. In humanities’ stead, the bugs inherited the earth.

Behind the curtain of crisis, denizens move in the safety of hidden bunkers and beneath midnight passes. Questionable science passed between these survivors is what brought about the hybrids. Humans spliced with the DNA of these mutant invertebrates that allowed them to develop strange new adaptations of their own design.

These hybrids are humanity's latest horizon and last hope.

The world has changed, but it has not begun anew. Derelict houses sit as monuments to what once was. The wastes are not devoid of life for those that know where to look. Dandelions push up through the cracks in concrete. Vines grow along sodden brick.

It is not over, there is still so much to do. Wary friendships and hopeful futures are just past the horizon on long stretches of road surrounded by thick pine.
